Transgender Day of Remembrance Toolkit

The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) toolkit is a resource for faith communities and other organizers in planning TDOR observances. It provides useful background materials that may help explain the meaning of and context for TDOR observances, as well as prayers and other materials that may be used or used as a guide.

By gathering all of these materials together in one place, we hope to nurture the growing international community of solidarity that honors this important day.

May our words and actions be a blessing to those who grieve and those who seek justice.

Toolkit History

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) began in 1999 as a candlelight vigil to remember Rita Hester.

Prayers, liturgy, and other organizing resources are developed every year for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) by a wide variety of faith leaders, as well as other transgender leaders.

Transfaith has been collecting resources since 2007, from a wide variety of individuals and allied organizations. In 2012, the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches shared its TDOR resources with Transfaith as well.

In preparation for Transgender Day of Remembrance 2013, Transfaith has worked in partnership with the Transgender People of Color Coalition to turn this collection resources into a more cohesive resource that looks closely at what Transgender Day of Remembrance is, who it most impacts, and how we can take those realities seriously.
