Transfaith for Intersex Concerns

Transfaith is pleased to announce the formation of two new Facebook groups  addressing the needs of people with intersex conditions.

"Transfaith for Intersex Concerns" will serve as a space for people with intersex conditions to connect with and encourage one another. Due to the sensitivity of topics discussed, that group is secret so that only members can see content and membership. Participants do not have to identify as transgender or gender non-conforming. To inquire, please contact Transfaith executive director, Chris Paige.

Meanwhile, "Intersex Awareness (by Transfaith)" is open to all, providing resources for allies and advocates. Due to the complexities of creating safer spaces for people with intersex conditions, this group is moderated.

"We know from various conversations through the years that people with intersex conditions do not always feel welcome, understood, or well-served," says Transfaith executive director, Chris Paige, "Unfortunately, this is especially true within organizations and events focused on the needs of transgender and gender non-conforming people."

Some people with intersex conditions identify as transgender, transsexual, or gender non-conforming, but the vast majority do not. Meanwhile, few transgender and/or LGBT organizations in the United States are well prepared to serve people with intersex conditions.

"We want to be clear that these groups are not seeking replace or usurp the important work of other organizations that are focused more completely on intersex concerns," continued Paige. "To the contrary, we hope that this effort will help us to better collaborate with existing intersex leadership in whatever ways Transfaith might be useful."
