Practical Tips for Transgender People

Key Points

The most important thing to know is that you don't have to do this alone -- and you don't have to have all the answers right away. Take your time.  Talk it through.  Don't rush into the "easy" answer that someone else might present to you.

Finding Support

There are support groups all over the country, as well as state, national and international networks. Lots of conversation and networking happens on-line, as well as at conferences and other events.

For folks who are just starting out, we recommend you prioritize connecting with transgender-specific organizations and networks. LGBT organizations are usually well-meaning, but often ill-equipped to provide practical support to people of transgender experience. It is often still worth asking local LGBT organizations to point you towards relevant trans-specific resources in your area.

We are not able to maintain a comprehensive list of networking options. However, we are familiar with the following groups which we know to be open to and supportive of spirituality. We know these to be great places to begin seeking out advisors, mentors, and other local or online support and networking.
