2016 Pre-Event: Weds, June 8, 2016

PTHC 2016: June 9-11, 2016

Transfaith Pre-Event at Philly Trans-Health

The Tranfaith pre-event is an opportunity for people of spirit to meet and greet others arriving for the Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference. Recognizing that Wednesday is a travel day for many people (the conference runs Thurs-Sat), we structure the day understanding that people arrive at different times and may need to find time to rest.

The pre-event at PTHC is always a great time to meet people who are involved in making Transfaith happen. At the end of the day, we typically host an evening event that is open to the public and highlights a particular faith tradition or theme.

2016 Pre-Event

This year, we are again doing a simple community workshop followed by a shared meal. it's an opportunity to connect, re-connect, and build relationship! Events are open to everyone, but your RSVP is important.

Pre-Event Background

Transfaith executive director, Chris Paige, is a co-founder (2009) of the spirituality track at Philly Trans-Health and former chair (2011) of the Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference. The annual pre-event started that first year, in 2009, as a short luncheon and continues as an afternoon of opportunities for people of spirit to meet and greet others arriving for the conference.

In 2009, it was clear that the most important thing we could do for transgender religious/spiritual organizing was to find one another, get to know one another, and build relationship.  This remains the most important and sustaining work we can do.

Yet it is rare for spaces to be created for us to focus on just that -- without lofty goals or focused outcomes. The IWG Pre-event is a place for relationships.  We build the day around some discussion topics. People come and go.  But by the time we enter into the conference "proper," we have already had a chance to know one another and build that initial connection. It opens up possibilities.
