Brochures from the Massachusetts Transgender Politcal Coalition

There are two nice brochures from the Massachusetts Transgender Politcal Coalition, aimed at preventing transgender suicide. Both are available in PDF format for free download.

The Trevor Survival Kit

The Trevor Project created The Trevor Workshop Guide, a classroom tool to be used in conjunction with the short film, Trevor, to constructively generate discussion about the myriad of issues surrounding suicide, personal identity and sexual orientation.  Through open discussions with all youth about feelings of isolation, feeling "different" from their peers, or being misunderstood, the classroom atmosphere can empower youth to discuss options for troubled youth and help students to watch over each other.

The Trevor Survival Kit is available free online.  A DVD of the Academy Award®-winning, short-film, Trevor, is available for $15.

ASIST: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

The United Church of Christ Coalition for LGBT Concerns is available to offer the internationally recognized, ASIST training program with a special focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth and young adults. The ASIST workshop is for caregivers who want to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in helping to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

ASIST is an internationally recognized Evidence-Based Practice designed to teach professionals and non-professionals alike how to recognize suicide risk and what to say and do to keep the person safe until the next level of help can become involved (see: www.livingworks.net).

ASIST provides a practical approach for all caregivers to follow when encountering a suicidal person. Participants learn how:

1) personal attitudes impact suicide intervention,
2) to identify and address suicide risk alerts,
3) to use an effective suicide intervention model, and
4) to network with community resources for a suicide-safer community.
